Nice Letter N (Alphabet ~ Single Stem Post)

The letter N is an educational and nutty good time because there is so much to do with it! We had fun with numbers, noodles (edible and pool ones), newspapers and more!

For the rest of the Alphabet, go HERE!

(Seedlings ~ preschool age)...

What we did for the Nice Letter N?...
Alphabet Wall:
Noodles on the N  ~
The boys glued down a bunch of different noodles on their N. We had saved some noodles that we used to make our Noodle Rainbow and also used some of dad’s homemade noodles.

Books:
*Read The Nicest Newt  (Alpha Tales book) and The MN Book (Bob Book Pre-Reader)

*Read an interesting noodle book ~ The Story of Noodles by Ying Chang Compestine - I learned that noodles originated in China (I thought it would have been Italy).

*Read a newt book ~ Newt by Matt Novak was a cute book with three stories in it and the boys wanted it reread several times.

*Read some numbers books – Dinosaur Numbers by Paul & Henrietta Stickland, Orla Kiely Numbers by Henry Holt, and Numbers by Sara Lee Anderson.
Art/Crafts:
*Pool Noodle Prints ~ I just cut up an old pool noodle and the boys dipped them in paint and made cool flower prints. This could be done with just the plain (non-flower) pool noodles as well.

*Noodle Painting ~ Cook up some noodles, then dip them in paint and get creating!

*Noodle Necklace ~ We saved our rainbow noodles from our rainbow necklaces and made some more necklaces.

Activities:
*Made Homemade Noodles ~ My hubby makes our noodles and the boys love to help.

*Noodle Eating with Chopsticks ~ From the book, The Story of Noodles, we learned 3 ways to eat noodles - drumstick, cut the grass and slurp! We also learned you are supposed to eat noodles loud - that shouldn't be a problem at my house, everything is loud here!

*Ceiling Noodle Drop ~ This works best when the noodles just get finished cooking! Just launch them up on the ceiling and prepare for them to drop.  Such Fun!

*Lego Numbers ~ I saw this idea from Imagination Tree and have been excited to try it!The boys measured with them and put them in order when they were scrambled. The sides of our number legos have the words, the number, dots and roman numerals.

*Egg Carton Numbers ~ An easy way to recycle an egg carton! I just wrote the numbers 1-12 on the inside cups of an egg carton. I then put a pile of beans in the lid and showed the boys how to put one bean in the 1, two in the 2 and so on. They all like this.

Letter Formation:
*Noodle Numbers and Letters ~ We did this for numbers and letters! You could also just create a picture.

*Newpaper N Search ~ I gave the boys highlighters and they searched a newspaper page and highlighted the N,n's.

Music and Movement:
*Numbers Songs ~ we got a Sesame Street Numbers CD from the library and had fun listening and singing the songs. We also enjoyed the Numbers Man song fromDLKT – check it out!

Snack:
*Noodle Nests ~ We wanted to have nectarines but they weren’t in season. Noodles  nests (and all the other noodles we ate this week ) were delish though.

More ideas…
*Make Nachos
*Talk about doing being nice!
